Description

Soulfused is a modern take on the classic text adventures from the early days of computer gaming. Every action is a typed command. From navigating rooms to battling enemies, your words shape your journey.

You open your eyes in a sterile chamber. A cheerful scientist greets you like an old friend. She welcomes you to your new existence as you struggle to remember. You are no longer human. You are Soulfused: a consciousness wired into a robotic shell, forged to serve an Empire that demands obedience.

As you begin your service, you'll navigate a world where the Empire's iron grip has extinguished almost all resistance. Yet, whispers of rebellion persist in the shadows. Soon you find yourself torn between loyalty, morality, and self-rediscovery. Will you obey? Will you resist? Or will you discover something deeper about yourself and the world that made you?

While the game carries the same core loop as the classic text adventures, it is also filled with modern conveniences, such as shortcuts, context-aware tab completion, and auto save. The design is intended to make players who fondly remember the games they grew up with, but who have gotten used to modern QoL functionalities, feel right at home.

History

Soulfused began somewhere around mid-2023 a hobby project created to test level generation ideas for another project. The text-based input system came later and was originally a debugging tool for the level generator.

It has since grown into a solo labor of love, with some licensed assets, and is now more or less feature complete. Development is focused on bringing the story over from various flow charts and into the game: from your Hub you take on missions that lead to new locations within the Empire's borders.

A demo featuring the first few missions is available on itch.io and Steam. It has been featured during Steam Next Fest in October 2025 and the Steam Cyberpunk Fest in August 2026.
